Omega 3 Fish Oils

Omega 3 Fish Oils have proven beneficial for children suffering from ADHD,, those with heart disease or elderly people troubled with mental health or loss of memory?

 There is rapidly growing support that the health benefits of <B>Omega 3 fish oils supplements can reduce cholesterol, stave off Alzheimer’s disease and make us smarter</b>. Research indicates that not only is <B> fish oils supplements</B> extremely effective at keeping the cardiovascular system healthy but is also becoming known as a brain supplement too. Plenty of reason for us all to switch over to the good oil.</p><p></p><p>An expedition to Greenland in 1976 studied the Inuit people and discovered that despite a diet that was extremely high in fat, heart disease was unheard of. The secret? The Inuit diet was rich in <B>Omega 3 fish oils </B> from eating mainly fish, resulting in low triglyceride levels in their blood stream. While most of us do not eat enough fish to equal the Inuits, the good news is that by taking concentrated <B> Omega 3 fish oils </B> as a dietary supplement, noticeable improvements to our health can occur in a matter of weeks.</p><p>An article in the New Scientist in 2006 declared: “ No nutrient has garnered as much supporting evidence for promoting mental health as long-chain <B>Omega 3 fish oils </B>fish oil supplements make the cells more receptive to incoming signals. Preliminary studies show that there are “encouraging results for schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, dyslexia, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and dyspraxia, among others.”

Another study by the University of Southern Australia has shown that children with ADHD and who have been taking Omega 3 fish oils as supplements have shown improved behavior and performance. Furthermore, there is every indication that ADHD is caused by Omega 3 deficiency in the diet.

There are three main types of Omega 3 fatty acids DHA, EPA and ALA all of which are now considered to be essential fatty acids. ALA is derived from plants and is converted into the other two within the body. Unfortunately, humans are not able to change more than about 10% of ALA into the other essential acids. For this reason Omega 3 from fish oil is better at providing us the necessary fish oils because it contains both DHA and EPA.

Another essential fatty acid is Omega 6 and it is desirable to maintain a balance of roughly 2 – 4 times Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acids that together promote good health if in the desired ratio. Typically our diet tends to be 14 – 25 times more Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acids. As a result our health suffers from inflammatory disorders such as heart disease, cancer and arthritis. In comparison the highly recommended Mediterranean diet includes little meat (which is high in omega-6 fatty acids) and emphasizes foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, including whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, olive oil, garlic, as well as moderate wine consumption.
